The New York Times' perennially fashionably short-sighted foreign affairs columnist, Thomas Friedman, argues that Afghans are "so war-weary and starved for security" that they'd welcome American troops to "police the whole place". Funny--that's what they supposedly said about the Taliban back in 1996 (not to mention Somalia in 1993). Somebody please buy this guy a ticket to see "Black Hawk Down"....
