I don't watch fictional television, but judging by the promos I've seen lately, there seems to be a strange trend in dramatic series. It started with the tough-talking lawyer shows--L.A. Law and its imitators (The Practice, The Guardian, Philly, Family Law), and continued with "JAG" (tough-talking military lawyers), "CSI" (tough-talking forensic lab technicians), "Boston Public" (tough-talking schoolteachers), "First Monday" (tough-talking Supreme Court justices), and now "The American Embassy", which I gather is a show about tough-talking State Department bureaucrats. Coming soon: "Norbert Smedley, Investigative Tax Accountant"....
